A complex sucrose sulphate compound which binds to stomach ulcers forming a protective gel coating and, by producing bicarbonate, buffers the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It does not reduce stomach acid production and is therefore used in conjunction with Omeprazole (see E.G.U.S.) to promote ulcer healing. It is especially effective for ulceration in the lower glandular part of the stomach. Dose is 20mg/kg bodyweight repeated two or three times daily. It has also been used for treatment of hind gut ulceration.
